Scam Situations

A common scam I’ve personally encountered and one that continues to target thousands of people is the fake “bank alert” text message. The purpose of this scam is straightforward: to trick individuals to reveal sensitive financial information such as login credentials, account numbers, or verification codes. ultimately the goal of the scammer is to gain access to the victims bank account and steal money or information.

the scam usually works by sending a text message appearing to be from a legitimate bank. The message might say something urgent like, “suspicious activity detected-click here to verify your account.” The sense of urgency is intensional; it pressures the recipient to act quickly without thinking logically. The link included leads to a fake website that looks nearly identical to the real banks login page. Once the victim enters their information, it’s immediately captured by the scammer. in some cases, the scammer might even prompt for a one-time passcode, allowing them to bypass additional security.

Looking back there’s a few ways you and I can learn to stay away from these scams. First, legitimate banks typically don’t ask for sensitive information through text messages or email links. Second, checking the senders phone number or email address can reveal inconsistencies, such as unusual formatting or numbers that don’t match official contact information. Third, instead of clicking random links, it better for you to manually type in your banks official website or app to verify any alerts.

Theres a lot of different scams coming up now with the rise of AI its important we fact check everything before going blindly into something.

I loved every bit of this because it happens everyday in our lives. Explains it very well and only tells me I always got to be alert of these scams. Good work!

Thank you Miguel. It does happen very often and its unfortunate that although some people knows its a scam the older generations struggle to verify what’s real and what isn’t and they are constantly at risk with these types of scams.

This is very true. I believe so many people have been victims of the bank fraud, DMV, and many more. It is very important to never answer anything unless you call the vendor yourself.

Its tragic we do have to watch out for many fakes like these from Dmv to banks its hard to truly identify what’s real or fake but this should be a reminder to always take precautions.
